Beer Travelist / Rye & Pint Brewery / Boxing Cat Brewery to Release Two Singapore-Exclusive Collaboration Beers

Beer Travelist Collaboration Beers

The cats are finally out of the bag.

Today we’re psyched to announce a series of exclusive release parties at some of Singapore’s finest beer bars to celebrate the launch of two small-batch collaboration beers we did with Rye & Pint Brewery (Singapore) and Boxing Cat Brewery (Shanghai, China). These have been in the works since March, and we can’t wait to unleash them on the Lion City.

Drum roll, please….

Haze Me Up Before You Sago (5.5% ABV) We drew inspiration for this juicy New England-style IPA from the refreshing mango sago pomelo dessert that’s popular in both Singapore and China. However, we added our own twist by substituting the pomelo with freshly squeezed calamansi juice, which imparts a tangy, slightly bitter flavor on the long way down. Flaked oats, fresh sago, milk lactose, and pureed ripe mango were used, as well, and then we triple dry-hopped the brew with Ekuanot and Citra hops.

This crushable collaboration is a perfect match for Singapore’s warm climate–and yes, when you drink this tropical sensation you’re meant to think of and sing the Wham! tune, then bust a move like George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley.

50 Grams of Fire (5% ABV): We took a small leap of faith with this one, but it turned out beautifully. Named after the 50 grams of diced chili padis we tossed into the kettle, 50 Grams of Fire is a truly unique and complex pale ale dry-hopped with Hallertau Blanc and then, some time later, Mosaic hops. Showcasing the chili padi without overdoing the heat, this one is, as Rye & Pint brewmaster Ross Goh said during a pre-carbonated tasting, “almost a contemplation or even dessert beer.” We love it.

We’ll soon share a behind-the-scenes look at the beers and how they came to be, but for now we want to make sure you know where and when to join us for a few rounds. As a note, these beers were the product of intense brainstorming (and brewing!) sessions between Goh, Beer Travelist, and Boxing Cat brewer Pedro Fernandes. Unfortunately Fernandes is unable to join us in Singapore, but we’re thrilled to have Boxing Cat brewmaster Michael Jordan representing in his stead.

Wednesday, November 7, Mikkeller Bar Singapore: The collaboration beers are tapped for the first time anywhere! Ross Goh (Brewmaster, Rye & Pint Brewery), Michael Jordan (Brewmaster, Boxing Cat Brewery), and Brian Spencer (Founder & Editor-in-chief, Beer Travelist) will discuss the beers, the state of craft beer in China, and beer-focused travel in Asia. There’ll also be time for a Q&A.

Thursday, November 8, The Good Beer Company: Goh, Jordan, and Spencer will host a round or two of craft beer bingo (!), with fantastic prizes to be won. Four beers from Rye & Pint Brewery will be tapped (including the collaborations), along with four beers selected by Beer Travelist.

Friday, November 9, Smith Street Taps: Goh, Jordan, and Spencer will be on hand at Chinatown’s world-famous craft beer hawker stall for a “Rye & Pint x Beer Travelist” tap takeover, which will include five exceptional Rye & Pint beers–including the collaborations, of course–and five taps curated by Beer Travelist.

No tickets required–just show up with some friends and get messy with us!
